Winter Bridge
The winter bridge is creaking with the steps of each day
And below the water’s freezing, are still moving on their way
While castles are seen crumbling and stone roads turn to clay.
Old laughing faces fill the markets and the streets.
The worried, busy people are stepping on each other’s feet.
Scampering off to church they go and then back home to eat.
The forests cold and quiet are dying in the dark
And some will still not see them for they cannot travel far.
I’m wondering just what we know and why it is so hard.
The king’s rebuilding castles while the sadder faces see
How wiser men have fallen from their paths into the sea
And the people are still searching for a way they want to be.
